The Voice Aerobics Voice Strengthening Exercise Video
is a whole body voice strengthening program focusing on posture, breath support and voice support. This 3 part program was developed by a speech therapist for people who have decreased voice, speech or swallowing.
The Voice Aerobics Voice Strengthening Exercise Video was created by Mary Spremulli, MA,CCC-SLP, a medical speech-language pathologist. Designed as an addition to regular speech therapy, the video includes specialized exercises that help increase voice and physical functioning. This whole-body voice strengthening program is designed to serve as an after therapy program for persons with voice changes due to Parkinson’s disease. The voice exercise video includes 3 parts: Part 1 Breathwork©, Part 2 Power Up Your Voice, Part 3 Cool Down.
Why exercise the breathing muscles? A healthy voice requires functioning vocal folds, healthy and well hydrated (moist) tissue, and good breath support. This is the real power-source for the voice. If breath support is inadequate or not used efficiently, then the voice may become too soft, raspy, hoarse, etc. Exercising your voice yields the same benefits as any other type of exercise.
The Voice Aerobics Voice Strengthening Exercise Video program is suitable for anyone who wishes to practice at home and strengthen their voice. The program is not designed to take the place of formal therapy, but can definitely support the goals of formal treatment with focus on posture, breath support and voice. When using the DVD for the first time, the manufacturer suggests using Part 1 (Breathwork©) approximately 3 times to become accustom to the teaching method. Then, she suggests using Part 3, (Cool Down) several times. Parts 1 and 3 can be combined together for 27 minutes of practice. Finally, use Part 2 (Power Up Your Voice). After practicing and becoming familiar with the whole program, users can mix and match the sections.
